The data in January 2017 from U.S. commerce department show the steel imports are 2.512 million tons. It is up 4.6% and rose 2.6% year-on-year .The growth is for three consecutive months.

Compared with January 2016, only the hot coil/plate /wire and rod fell. It fell 56.7%/ 36.5% and 56.7% respectively. The rebar/cold rolled/ galvanized sheet and steel imports rose. The growth is 18% to 60%. The rebar growth is in the first place. Compared with in December 2016, semi-finished products fell by 10.4%. But finished product material is normal. Even if the hot roll/galvanized sheet and plate imports fell, but it was only down slightly. The decrease is 1% to 1%. The remains was still growing.

Imports from other areas are also growth. For example it jumped 237.8% from India But imports from Russia increased by 73.5%.Compared with in December 2016, imports from Turkey is nearly doubled. North America/Japan/China/South Korea/India exports also grow. The increase is from 2.6% to 15.3%. On the other hand, the decrease in imports from the EU/central and South America/Russia were 34.9%, 19% and 13.2% respectively.

In addition, in January 2017, the United States steel imports from China was 62000 tons. It plunged by 25.9% and rose 7% over the previous year.

Up to February 24, 2017,the latest statistics show steel import license number is 2.169 million tons, it increased obviously year on year.
